The situation

IMD were asked to provide external support to a well known PLC which had embarked on a two-pronged strategy of organic and acquisitive growth. Our experience in strategic market understanding and building share through acquisitions was an important factor in the assignment which was to advise our client of potential acquisition targets that were in private hands but would make a valuable addition to the portfolio of a PLC.

Action

The project was primarily a desk based exercise to examine suppliers to the market within specific geographical areas of the UK, the objective to find targets fitting a client-specified profile and report on key business dimensions, competition in their area of operation and potential synergies with the client operation post acquisition.

Outcome

We met our clients expectations, delivering a report and an extensive list of potential targets covering each geography under scrutiny which supported their business growth aspirations.
